Stein from EVTools and I have just returned from the EVS Conference in Gothenburg, full of fresh insights! What stood out?
CPOs and cities across Europe consistently highlighted the same pain point: the process of collaboratively establishing new or modified charging sites is fragmented, time-consuming, and lacks coordination among the various stakeholders involved.
While many standalone tools exist for network planning, calculations, monitoring, optimization, or infrastructure management, a truly integrated, multi-stakeholder approach to managing charging sites remains rare, even as demand rapidly increases.
Key Observations:
- In most countries, local authorities rely more heavily on market parties than is customary in the Netherlands and Flanders.
- The ecosystem of EV infrastructure software and data tools has exploded — resulting in a new layer of complexity and integration challenges.
- There is a growing need for interoperability and collaboration between platforms, both technically and commercially, to accelerate the maturation of the sector.
The sector is clearly moving fast; smart, better-connected solutions are therefore more necessary than ever before.
There was great energy at the event, and the momentum for what's to come is palpable.
